PLANET FIRST,
BULLSHIT LAST
IT’S NOT JUST ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT AT SPRING BAY MILL. FOR US, IT’S ABOUT THE ENTIRE PLANET AND THE PEOPLE ON IT
WE RENEW, REGROW, RESTORE, REPLANT, REBUILD, AND RECREATE AT SPRING BAY MILL.
WE'RE THE RESPONSIBLE CHOICE.
The word ‘sustainability’ is thrown around these days by brands chasing credibility without doing the actual work. We’re calling bullshit on this. For us, sustainability isn't a checkbox act—it’s how we live. To prove it, we played an integral role in stopping the logging industry’s supply chain. Tasmania is now carbon negative because of it. While others talk, we act.
Spring Bay Mill isn’t just about bin systems or cutting emissions to meet a quota. It’s about rethinking our entire relationship with the planet. It’s about understanding that every decision we make impacts the world around us.
We go beyond the basics. We’ve given a home to over 25,000 endemic plants in our on-site nursery. Some of our accommodations rely solely on rainwater and solar power (whereas in the past, the mill used 200,000L of water every day). We upcycled the industrial infrastructure, instead of getting rid of it. And so now, grass now grows on equipment that once harmed the planet. In fact, wallabies feed on it. We even designed smaller rooms to encourage gathering outdoors (because when people are reminded of our planet's beautiful natural setting, their appreciation for saving it grows). We also bring in facilitators of social change, so your experience here isn’t just a getaway—it’s a learning opportunity. Every decision we make - big and small - we have sustainability on our mind.
We do many other things, but the website template doesn’t have enough room for all the details, so come see it for yourself.
We will never stop helping the planet, and we don’t think you should either. This goes beyond simply experiencing a single, sustainable event. We want you to turn what you learn here into sustainable living. We don’t believe in single-use environmentalism. We believe in ongoing care for our world.
