Recent surveys conducted by LinkedIn and the AFR (February 9, '24), reveal that most workers prefer spending two to three days a week in the office. Recent studies, including research from ANU, University of Newcastle and Macquarie University, expose the darker side of remote work. They suggest that remote workers are more susceptible to anxiety, depression and loneliness. It appears that humans don't quite emulate robots as seamlessly as anticipated. Surprise, surprise!

Thanks to COVID-19, society conducted a large-scale experiment by isolating individuals within their homes. The initial shift to remote work may have been a necessity, but even as restrictions eased, a substantial proportion of individuals opted to remain at home. This trend raises questions about the long-term effects of social isolation and remote work on mental well-being and productivity.

Studies indicate that prolonged isolation can lead to feelings of disconnection from colleagues and that remote workers may find it challenging to interpret messages accurately without the social cues provided by face-to-face interactions.

While some individuals may benefit from remote work arrangements, the majority may be unknowingly developing habits that undermine their progress and success.

Allow me to present two hypotheses:

Moreover, offsite retreats close to nature emerge as the optimal strategy for fostering personal and business success. Now, you might think I'm trying to sell you something. And you would be correct! But hear me out…
